SABCS 2019 Conference Review

In this review:

This year’s SABCS was the 42nd edition of the meeting and brought together medical and radiation
oncologists, oncoplastic and breast surgeons, as well as allied health professionals. There was, as always, a strong representation from the clinical and biomedical scientific community whose input via basic science and translational research has resulted in the expeditious delivery of novel therapeutic interventions from the laboratory bench-top to the clinic. This year was the first time in the history of the symposium where patient advocates and breast cancer survivors not only chaired a session but also consisted of the panel. The significance of this cannot be lost to those of us in the field.
Once again, although not expressly stated, the ever-evolving themes of biomarker-driven, personalised,
precision medicine, with a view to appropriately escalating or de-escalating therapy, was consistently echoed throughout the majority of presentations and posters.
